HDR Selected for Seattle Public Utilities Transfer Station Project
December 30, 2014 – To help Seattle Public Utilities achieve its goal of 70 percent solid waste diversion by 2025, HDR has been selected to conduct options analysis, design and construction services for the South Transfer Station Phase 2.
The project is on an 11-acre site that houses the South Recycling and Disposal Station, located on a closed landfill. The HDR team will develop and evaluate site plan concepts to incorporate 11 possible facilities, including:
Recycling building, reuse center, grit processing facility, decant facility
Replacing or preserving the existing household hazardous waste collection facility
Programming five acres of the site to accommodate a future materials recovery facility
The options analysis is scheduled to be completed by mid-2015, with design, permitting and contractor procurement completed by 2016.
