Jo Anne Murray Levenson Honored with AIA Northern Virginia Service to the Chapter Award
December 11, 2014 – HDR is pleased to announce that Jo Anne Murray Levenson, AIA, NCARB, a senior project architect in our Alexandria office, was recently honored with the AIA Northern Virginia Service to the Chapter Award. The award pays tribute to her outstanding contributions as chair of the Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee and specifically recognizes ‘exemplary and meritorious conduct by a member in the service of the AIA Northern Virginia Chapter.’ With Jo Anne leading the Women in Architecture committee, new programs have been added, while others were enhanced and expanded—all designed to promote architecture through community and charitable events.
The Women in Architecture Committee serves 765 women architects and designers in the greater Washington DC area that includes Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, and engages members by hosting monthly networking functions, providing mentoring and educational opportunities for women in all stages of their professional lives, tackling a wide range of topics such as leadership skills, licensing and pay equity, while also offering special tours showcasing the work of women architects.
An industry veteran with experience in multiple disciplines including design, planning and construction management, Jo Anne was managing principal of her own award-winning design firm for over 25 years before joining HDR. In addition to her work on the AIA committee, she is an advocate in her local office and leads the Ladies Club, a long-standing group of professionals from the Alexandria, Bethesda and Fairfax offices who meet quarterly to discuss issues important to the practice of architecture.
