ASID Honors Tama Duffy Day With 2014 Designer of Distinction Award
The Designer of Distinction Award is premier recognition for personal achievement in the field of interior design
LOS ANGELES, JUNE 21, 2014 — Gensler announced today that Tama Duffy Day, a Gensler leader in Health & Wellness, won the 2014 Designer of Distinction Award from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The ASID will bestow the award on Day tonight during the Celebration awards gala at Paramount Pictures Studios.
The Designer of Distinction Award recognizes an ASID professional member with a commitment to the profession as demonstrated by a significant, high-quality body of work. The award celebrates the designer’s attention to social concerns along with his or her creative, innovative concepts that have advanced the profession.
“I am deeply humbled to be recognized among other distinguished award winners and friends like Roz Cama, Penny Bonda and Nila Leiserowitz,” said Day. “I applaud ASID in their industry-wide leadership, and I mirror their mantra that ‘design transforms lives.’”
Over 30 years, Day has produced an impressive body of work demonstrating the measurable effects of design on productivity, efficiency and innovation. Day entered the design profession before healthcare was a design specialty, and she helped shape the practice by continually focusing on design and planning innovations. Her practice explores opportunities for interior design to create culturally supportive, healing environments.
Day’s commitment to research-driven design is matched by her dedication to mentoring and inspiring other designers. Some of her most meaningful work has been creating platforms for other interior designers to be recognized. This includes guiding hundreds of interior designers through critiques and edits, encouraging them to share ideas, and sponsoring senior design leaders to become ASID fellows.
